Dear friends of the guitar!

This is already the 14th time that I have the pleasure and the honour to welcome many guitarists in Templin.

I am sure that also this festival will live up to the main idea which is that guitarist of different ages and skills meet, listen to and talk shop with each other.

This year, we unfortunately have to do without the so called "adult" contest for guitarist up to the age of 24 which is due to financial reasons.

The small but beautiful town Templin will once again prove to be a good host and the organization team of BAJA will do all its possible to create once more that incomparable, almost family-like atmosphere which is also appreciated by our guests from abroad.

I wish all our guests a pleasant stay, a lot of joy thanks to the music and some new insights due to meetings between future and established artists.

I hope that the jury members will have critical ears and open hearts. Good luck to all of the artists! May everything turn out to your satisfaction.

Yours, Barbara Richter-Rumstig (Artistic Director)

Words of welcome on the occasion of the 14th International Guitar Festival
in Templin, May 18 - 21, 2006

It is the consequent and determined work of the members and sponsors of BAJA e.V. art institute that has made it possible, year after year, to organize this very particular International Guitar Festival.
Voluntary work and the joy of music and art are showing regularly what can be achieved even if there is a lack of money.

Regular events are very important for the image of the town Templin. It gets around that guitar fans, guests as well as the inhabitants of Templin enjoy the guitar festival every year.

I highly appreciate the work of the art institute and would like to thank its members for supporting young artists in such an exemplary way. Also this year's festival promises to become exciting as it will take place under perfect conditions.
I would like to welcome everybody - festival organizers, sponsors, artists and guests - and hope that you spend some very interesting and pleasant hours in the Seehotel Templin and all the other venues.

Yours Ulrich Schoeneich (Mayer of Templin)

Thursday 18 May

Seehotel Templin

8 p.m. Opening ceremony

Following the tradition of this festival, we introduce all the artists and the contestants already present to the audience and the press.

The BAJA art institute will perform extracts from its own production "Mozarts Spiele" and we will hear the "Schwarzer Peter" guitar quartet of the Frankfurt (Oder) music school.

The members of the "Schwarzer Peter" quartet are grammar school pupils who all won prizes as soloists at the "Jugend musiziert" (youth for music) contest of Deutscher Musikrat (German council of music) and who have been directed by Manfred Uhlmann since 2003.
The four young men's names are: Roman Pogorzelski, Michael Brabec, Christian Rebert and Michael Chwalisz.

Friday 19 May

Seehotel Templin

Master classes and workshops during the whole day

Since we assume that many pupils cannot arrive before Saturday because of their school lessons during the week, we have to remain flexible and wait with fixing the schedule of our master classes and workshops until we know the actual demand.

Master classes can take place during the day with the professors Siewers, Bögeholz and Praxmarer.
The classes can take place under the condition of prior registration by telephone (0049 (0)3987-2511 or 0049 (0)3307-312102). Price per lesson: 20 EUR for guests, 10 EUR for contestants.

With the organization of the workshops we would like to proceed in a similar way. This year's topic "games" gives us various possibilities for workshops. Nevertheless, we would also prefer not to make concrete offers as long as the number of participants and guests already staying in Templin on Friday has not been fixed.
4 p.m. Duo improvisation contest

Seehotel Templin

This contest is a novelty in our festival programme.
Maybe some young guitarists feel more assured when they are allowed to improvise in pairs.
A jury of three people will decide which pairs are the best.

The jury:
Uwe Kropinski (Berlin), head of jury
Dieter Rumstig (BAJA art institute)
Wolfgang Praxmarer (Innsbruck)

8 p.m. Solo concert Vicente Bögeholz

St. Georgenkapelle Templin

Vicente Bögeholz was born in Santiago de Chile as the son of musicians. He grew up in an atmosphere characterized by Latin American and occidental music, which can now be found in his wide stylistic range. His studies of classic guitar were prized with the concert exam (Cologne/ Paris). As a soloist and with an orchestra he has given concerts in other European countries and overseas. Numerous first performances show his commitment in favour of contemporary music. In 1995, Vicente Bögeholz was awarded the Aachen Kulturförderpreis (prize for the support of cultural projects). Together with Juanjo Mosalini, he was nominated for the German World Music Award 2006 in November 2005.

8 p.m. Solo concert Wolfgang Praxmarer, Vihuela and baroque guitar

St. Georgenkapelle Templin

Wolfgang Praxmarer was born in Innsbruck (Austria) where he studied with Michael Schäffer and Hopkinson Smith. As a lutenist and continuo player, he is a member of some ensembles for old music. Together with the Austrian soprano Maria Erlacher and the Catalan player of the viola da gamba Pere Ros, he also became known on an international level. He lives in Innsbruck and is the head of the ORF (Austrian broad casting) music department.

8 p.m. Solo concert Uwe Kropinski, guitar

Wein- und Teehaus Gotzmann (Weinscheune), Prenzlau

Uwe Kropinski
is one of the best German Jazz guitarists worldwide. The press covers him with superlatives like "guitarist of the century", "guitar paganini", "Glenn Gould of the guitar", "Jimi Hendrix of the acoustic guitar". It is his breathtaking technique and his inexhaustible imagination that make each of his concerts a unique event. When he works with an orchestra, the improvisation "problem" becomes a joyful and easy exercise.
Sunday 21 May

Kirchlein im Grünen Alt Placht

10 a.m. Solo concert Isabel Siewers, guitar

Maria Isabel Siewers de Pazur
was born in Argentina and is a guest professor at the Mozarteum in Innsbruck. South-American music, in particular by contemporary composers, plays an outstanding role in her numerous concerts and CD productions.

Schloß Wartin (Wartin Castle)

11 a.m. charity concert

for the „Collegium Wartinum" foundation featuring Wolfgang Praxmarer*, Vihuela and baroque guitar

Wartin Castle is one of those castles in the new laender that once were threatened by dilapidation. Works in order to restore the castle were started at the beginning of the 1990s. Today the building is used by the European academy of science and about 2000 students of many European universities have already had the opportunity to learn and do research together in this place. This charity concert is Wolfgang Praxmarer's contribution to support projects within arts and academic research.
